Vocabyss

Privacy policy

Effective 8 October 2026 · Applies to the Vocabyss app for Android

Who we are

Vocabyss is made by the Vocabyss Team. For anything about privacy, write to vocabyss.team@gmail.com.

What stays on your device

Your learning progress, review schedule, hero, settings and run history are stored in a local database inside the app. So are daily reminders (scheduled on the phone), the list of translation reports you have not sent yet, and a small diagnostics log. Word pronunciation uses your phone's own text-to-speech.

Android may include the app's data in your device backup to your Google account, so a new phone can restore your progress. That backup belongs to your Google account; we cannot read it. You can turn it off in your phone's backup settings.

Analytics — optional, off by default

If you switch on Share anonymous analytics (in Settings, or in the prompt after a run), the app sends gameplay events to PostHog (EU region) together with a random ID created on your phone. Events describe play, for example: a run started or ended, whether an answer was correct and how long it took, the question type and floor, hints, chests, level-ups, rewarded-ad offers and paywall views.

They never contain the words or answers you type, your name, email, contacts or precise location. PostHog receives your IP address as part of each request; we do not use it to identify you. We use these events only to balance the game and fix problems.

Turning analytics off in Settings stops all sending immediately.

Ads in the free version

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and information about ad interactions.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's consent dialog before ads are personalised; you can change your choice any time in Settings → Ad privacy options. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. Pro removes all ads.

Purchases

Pro is bought through Google Play, which handles payment; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to know whether Pro is active. It works with an anonymous app ID and the purchase receipt — not your name or email.

Feedback and translation reports

Feedback opens a form hosted by Tally. The app fills in some context so we can reproduce problems: the app version, course, floor, platform and system version, language and the report type. For translation reports it also adds the words you flagged (the word and its translation).

Nothing is sent until you press Submit. Whatever you write, and your email if you choose to leave one, reaches us through Tally.

Diagnostics

For bug reports the app can copy its local diagnostics log to your clipboard. It leaves your phone only if you paste it into a message yourself.

Children

Vocabyss is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

How long we keep data

Analytics events: up to 24 months. Feedback messages: as long as needed to answer and fix the issue, and no longer than 24 months. Data on your phone stays until you delete it.

Your choices and rights

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you may also complain to your data protection authority.

Security

Everything the app sends travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Data on your phone is kept in the app's private storage.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above; important changes will also be mentioned in the app.
